Vietnam Visa for Cambodian Citizens: 30 Days Without a Visa, Then the E-Visa

Vietnam visa for Cambodian citizens: no visa for 30 days or less. Longer trips need the e-visa, from $47 (approx. KHR 190,320). Cambodian riel prices.

How to apply Vietnam evisa

Cambodian citizens with an ordinary passport do not need a visa for a stay of 30 days or less, so the Vietnam visa for Cambodian citizens only matters when you plan to stay longer. Then the standard route is the e-visa, valid for up to 90 days and from $47 (approx. KHR 190,320) all-in through us for single entry. This page covers the 30-day rule, when an e-visa is needed, prices in Cambodian riel, urgent cut-offs in Phnom Penh time, the steps, documents, visa on arrival and the embassy. You can apply for your e-visa with us in about ten minutes.

If you are checking whether a Cambodian needs a visa for Vietnam on a short trip, the answer is no. For a longer one, the clock matters: Phnom Penh keeps the same time as Vietnam all year, so an urgent e-visa ordered in the morning can arrive the same day.

Do Cambodian citizens need a visa for Vietnam?

No, not for 30 days or less. Cambodian citizens with an ordinary passport can enter Vietnam without a visa for a stay of up to 30 days, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs list published on June 30, 2025 and checked in October 2026.

You still need a valid passport and a ticket out. Our page on Vietnam visa exemption rules lists every country covered.

How the 30-day exemption works

A Cambodian traveler needs a visa only when the stay goes past 30 days. The rule is a bilateral agreement, amended so that the 30-day stay applied from January 1, 2010, up from 14 days.

Vietnamese government news reported that citizens of both countries with ordinary passports valid for at least six months need no visa to enter, transit or stay for up to 30 days. The reports do not say how the days are counted, so plan the dates conservatively.

When Cambodian citizens need a visa for Vietnam

Whether travelers from Cambodia need a visa depends on the length and purpose of the stay: they need a Vietnam e-visa for any stay longer than 30 days.

Apply before you fly: the e-visa lets you stay up to 90 days, with single or multiple entry, under Law 23/2023/QH15.

Typical cases are a long family visit, a stay that begins as a short visit and runs on, or a longer trip that combines Vietnam with an overland route through Cambodia. A 90-day e-visa costs no more than a 30-day one through us.

Urgent cut-offs in Phnom Penh time

Standard takes 5 to 7 working days. The urgent speeds use Vietnamese working days, which start at 8:00 in Vietnam, and Phnom Penh keeps the same time as Vietnam all year, so the table below shows the Vietnamese cut-offs unchanged.

Order cut-off Phnom Penh time
Same day 14:15
Super Urgent 15:30
Emergency 17:30
1 working day 18:00

Example: you order on Tuesday at 9:00 in Phnom Penh. Emergency arrives by 10:30, Super Urgent by 11:30 and Same day by 18:00, all in Phnom Penh time. Ordered on Tuesday at 16:00 instead, Emergency still arrives by 17:30, but Super Urgent and Same day have passed their cut-offs: Super Urgent arrives on Wednesday at 11:00 and Same day on Wednesday at 14:00.

The weekend window starts at Friday 18:00 in Phnom Penh and ends on Sunday at 16:00. In that window, order the Weekend and public holidays speed before 15:20 and it arrives by 18:30 the same day. Our urgent e-visa page has every speed in Vietnam time.

Vietnam visa requirements for Cambodian citizens

For the e-visa, the requirements for Cambodian citizens match those for every applicant:

  • Passport data page: Full page in the frame, no glare on the code lines at the bottom.
  • Portrait: Recent, facing forward, white background, no glasses.
  • Trip details: Arrival and departure dates, entry and exit gates, first accommodation address.
  • Card: Debit or credit card that works for overseas online payments.

Photo examples and the full checklist are on our e-visa requirements page.

Vietnam visa on arrival for Cambodian citizens

Cambodian citizens have little reason to use visa on arrival: a stay of 30 days or less needs no visa, and a longer one is simpler with an e-visa.

Visa on arrival works only at Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang and Cam Ranh, with an approval letter obtained before you board and a $25 or $50 stamping fee at the airport. If you want to compare the options, you can choose a service.

Vietnam embassy in Cambodia

Vietnam has an embassy in Cambodia, but you do not need it for an e-visa, which is issued online, or for a stay of 30 days or less. Our page on the Vietnam embassy in Cambodia has the details.

Tips for Cambodian travelers

Two points help Cambodian travelers: which currency to read, and which border gate to name.

Riel and dollars side by side

Cambodia uses the riel and the US dollar together. The table shows approximate riel figures at the mid-market rate on October 10, 2026, but your card is charged in US dollars, and your bank converts at its own rate.

Name the gate you will use

Many Cambodian travelers cross by road. If you apply for an e-visa, name the entry gate you will really use, because the e-visa is valid only at the gates you list, out of 26 land border gates.

eVisaVietnam.com is a private visa service operated by TK VIET NAM., JSC, not the Vietnamese government. You can apply yourself at evisa.gov.vn for US$25. If you want your files checked and a delivery time backed by a full refund, apply for your e-visa with us.
