  • Passport data page: Full page in the frame, no glare on the code lines at the bottom.
  • Portrait: Recent, facing forward, white background, no glasses.

Visa on arrival for Australians

Australians can use visa on arrival when flying into Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang or Cam Ranh, despite what some guides say. You need an approval letter before you board and pay a $25 or $50 stamping fee at the airport.

It does not work for cruise ports or land borders. For most trips the e-visa is simpler; you can compare both when you choose a service.

Vietnam embassy in Australia

Vietnam has an embassy in Canberra and a consulate general in Sydney. Neither is needed for an e-visa, which is issued online. They handle passport-sticker visas for longer or special-purpose stays; details are on our page about the Vietnam embassy in Australia.

Tips for Australian travelers

Two timing questions come up for Australians: what happens to an order placed on an Australian weekend, and how Vietnamese public holidays affect the speeds.

Ordering on a weekend in Australia

Saturday and Sunday daytime in Australia fall inside our weekend window, which runs from Friday 18:00 to Sunday 16:00 Vietnam time (Friday 22:00 to Sunday 20:00 in Sydney during daylight saving time).

Order the Weekend and public holidays speed before 19:20 Sydney time and the e-visa arrives by 22:30 the same day. Our page on the weekend and holiday e-visa covers this in detail.

Vietnamese public holidays

Vietnamese public holidays are not working days, so working-day speeds pause and only the Weekend and public holidays speed runs. The longest closure is Lunar New Year (Tet), usually in late January or February. If you fly around Tet, order well before the holiday starts.

eVisaVietnam.com is a private visa service operated by TK VIET NAM., JSC, not the Vietnamese government. You can apply yourself at evisa.gov.vn for US$25. If you want your files checked and a delivery time backed by a full refund, apply for your e-visa with us.
