Processing time and cut-offs in Toronto and Vancouver
Standard takes 5 to 7 working days. Urgent speeds follow Vietnam's working day, which begins at 8:00 in Vietnam: 20:00 the previous evening in Toronto and 17:00 in Vancouver during standard time. Canada changes its clocks on the same dates as the US, the second Sunday in March and the first Sunday in November.
| Cut-off (Vietnam) | Toronto, standard | Toronto, daylight | Vancouver, standard | Vancouver, daylight |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Same day, 14:15 | 2:15 | 3:15 | 23:15 the day before | 0:15 |
| Super Urgent, 15:30 | 3:30 | 4:30 | 0:30 | 1:30 |
| Emergency, 17:30 | 5:30 | 6:30 | 2:30 | 3:30 |
Those cut-offs fall in the Canadian night, so a daytime order is processed the next Vietnamese morning. Ordered on a Canadian day from Sunday to Thursday, Emergency ($260) arrives by 22:30 in Toronto during daylight time (21:30 in winter), or 19:30 in Vancouver (18:30 in winter). Same day ($118) arrives by 3:00 Toronto time overnight (2:00 in winter).
Friday and Saturday daytime orders fall inside our weekend window and use the Weekend and public holidays speed ($250), delivered by 7:30 the next morning in Toronto during daylight time. Calgary and Edmonton are two hours behind Toronto. Our urgent e-visa page lists every speed in Vietnam time.

Vietnam visa on arrival for Canadian travelers
Visa on arrival works for Canadians flying into Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang or Cam Ranh only. You arrange an approval letter before departure and pay a $25 or $50 stamping fee at the airport.
The e-visa avoids that airport step and also covers land crossings, so it suits most Canadian itineraries better. Both are compared when you choose a service.
Vietnam embassy in Canada
The Embassy of Vietnam in Ottawa runs vietnamembassy.ca. For an e-visa you never need to visit it; embassies handle passport-sticker visas for longer stays. Addresses and contacts are on our page about the Vietnam embassy in Canada.
Tips for Canadian travelers
Two points from government sources trip up Canadian travelers: which border gate the e-visa lets you use, and which websites can be trusted.
Enter through the gate on your e-visa
You name an entry gate on the application, and the Government of Canada advises that entry is restricted to the port shown on your e-visa. Pick the airport you will actually land at.
If your route changes, for example from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City, sort it out before you fly; message us and we will explain the options.
Check the website before you pay
In October 2023 the embassy in Ottawa warned Canadians about websites using words like "viet" and "embassy" in their names. Our name is close to the government's too, which is why every page says we are a private service; the government site is evisa.gov.vn.
eVisaVietnam.com is a private visa service operated by TK VIET NAM., JSC, not the Vietnamese government. You can apply yourself at evisa.gov.vn for US$25. If you would rather have your files checked and a refund if the e-visa is refused or late, apply for your e-visa with us.
