What is the tourist visa for Vietnam?

A tourist visa for Vietnam is an e-visa issued online by the Vietnam Immigration Department for travel and holidays. Vietnam grants e-visas to citizens of all countries and territories with a 90-day stay, according to the national tourism authority's visa requirements page (checked October 2026).

Whether you need a tourist visa depends on your passport. Citizens of some countries enter without a visa for a set number of days. Check Do I need a visa for Vietnam? for yours before you apply.

Tourist visa for Vietnam: validity and entry

A tourist visa for Vietnam is valid for up to 90 days, with single or multiple entry, under Law 23/2023/QH15. You choose the validity dates and the length of stay on the form.

The e-visa is accepted at 79 border gates: 15 international airports, 26 land border gates and 38 seaports (as of October 2026). A 90-day e-visa costs no more than a 30-day one, so set the dates wider than your trip. Our guide to the 90-day e-visa explains single and multiple entry.

What a tourist visa allows

A tourist e-visa lets you travel in Vietnam as a visitor: holidays, sightseeing, visits to family and friends, and short business visits such as meetings or conferences. It does not let you work or take up employment in Vietnam.

Travel, sightsee and stay in hotelsTake a job in Vietnam
Visit family and friendsStay beyond the dates on the e-visa
Attend a short meeting or conferenceEnter before the valid-from date

If your plan involves work or a long stay, look at the business visa rather than a tourist e-visa.

Vietnam travel visa: how to apply

To get a travel visa for Vietnam through us, you apply in three steps:

  1. Enter your details: Passport, travel dates, the airport or border gate you will use and your speed.
  2. Pay and add files: Pay by card, then upload your passport data page and a recent portrait photo, straight away or later.
  3. Receive the e-visa: We check everything, submit it and email you the approved PDF.

You do not upload a flight ticket or hotel booking; the form only asks for your first address in Vietnam. Keep both on your phone anyway, since an airline or border officer may ask about your plans. The full list of papers is on our e-visa requirements page, and our guide on how to apply walks through each step.

Tourist e-visa or visa on arrival

Choose the tourist e-visa unless you are a group flying into one of four airports. Visa on arrival needs an approval letter before you board, and it works only at Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang and Cam Ranh. It means two payments, a service fee and a stamping fee at the airport.

Our comparison of e-visa vs visa on arrival puts the options side by side.

If you want a person to check your photo and passport scan before submission, apply for your e-visa with us.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do tourists need a visa for Vietnam?

It depends on the passport. Citizens of the exempt countries can stay a set number of days without a visa. Everyone else needs a visa, and the e-visa is the usual choice for tourists.

How long can a tourist stay in Vietnam?

Up to 90 days on an e-visa, with single or multiple entry. Citizens of exempt countries stay for the number of days their exemption gives.

Do I need a hotel booking or flight ticket?

You do not upload either. The form asks for your first address in Vietnam, but there is nowhere to attach proof.

Can I work on a tourist visa?

No. The tourist e-visa covers visiting and short business meetings, not employment.

Single or multiple entry for tourists?

Choose single entry for one trip. Choose multiple entry if you will leave and re-enter, for example on a side trip to Cambodia or Laos.
