Vietnam Visa for Thai Citizens: 30 Days Without a Visa

Vietnam visa for Thai citizens: no visa for 30 days or less. Longer trips need the e-visa, from $47 (approx. THB 1,578). Thai baht prices.

How to apply Vietnam evisa

Thai citizens with an ordinary passport do not need a visa for a stay of 30 days or less, so the Vietnam visa for Thai citizens only matters when you plan to stay longer. Then the standard route is the e-visa, valid for up to 90 days and from $47 (approx. THB 1,578) all-in through us for single entry. This page covers the 30-day rule, when an e-visa is needed, prices in Thai baht, urgent cut-offs in Bangkok time, the steps, documents, visa on arrival and the embassy. You can apply for your e-visa with us in about ten minutes.

If you are checking whether a Thai citizen needs a visa for Vietnam on a short trip, the answer is no. For a longer one, the clock matters: Bangkok keeps the same time as Vietnam all year, so an urgent e-visa ordered in the morning can arrive the same day.

Do Thai citizens need a visa for Vietnam?

No, not for 30 days or less. Thai citizens with an ordinary passport can enter Vietnam without a visa for a stay of up to 30 days, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs list published on June 30, 2025 and checked in October 2026.

You still need a valid passport and a ticket out. Our page on Vietnam visa exemption rules lists every country covered.

How the 30-day exemption works

A Thai traveler needs a visa only when the stay goes past 30 days. The rule is a bilateral agreement, and every recent list we found gives the same 30 days, including Vietnam's tourism site.

The sources do not say how the days are counted, and they differ on passport validity: six months in one guide, 30 days beyond departure in another. We advise six months, as for the e-visa.

When Thai citizens need a visa for Vietnam

Whether travelers from Thailand need a visa depends on the length and purpose of the stay: they need a Vietnam e-visa for any stay longer than 30 days.

Apply before you fly: the e-visa lets you stay up to 90 days, with single or multiple entry, under Law 23/2023/QH15.

Typical cases are a long family visit, a working holiday, a stretch of remote work from Da Nang, or a trip that begins as a short visit and runs on. A 90-day e-visa costs no more than a 30-day one through us.

Urgent cut-offs in Bangkok time

Standard takes 5 to 7 working days. The urgent speeds use Vietnamese working days, which start at 8:00 in Vietnam, and Bangkok keeps the same time as Vietnam all year, so the table below shows the Vietnamese cut-offs unchanged.

Thailand does not change its clocks, so the table holds all year.

Order cut-offBangkok time
Same day14:15
Super Urgent15:30
Emergency17:30
1 working day18:00

Example: you order on Tuesday at 9:00 in Bangkok. Emergency arrives by 10:30, Super Urgent by 11:30 and Same day by 18:00, all in Bangkok time. Ordered on Tuesday at 16:00 instead, Emergency still arrives by 17:30, but Super Urgent and Same day have passed their cut-offs: Super Urgent arrives on Wednesday at 11:00 and Same day on Wednesday at 14:00.

The weekend window starts at Friday 18:00 in Bangkok and ends on Sunday at 16:00. In that window, order the Weekend and public holidays speed before 15:20 and it arrives by 18:30 the same day. Our urgent e-visa page has every speed in Vietnam time.

How to apply from Thailand

You apply from Thailand online, in three steps with us:

  1. Enter your details: Passport, travel dates, the airport or border gate you will use and your speed.
  2. Pay and add files: Pay by card, then upload your passport data page and a recent photo, straight away or later.
  3. Receive the e-visa: We check everything, submit it and email you the approved PDF.

You can also apply yourself on evisa.gov.vn with the same details. Our guide on how to apply walks through both.

Vietnam visa requirements for Thai citizens

For the e-visa, the requirements for Thai citizens match those for every applicant:

  • Thai passport: Valid for at least 6 months from your entry date, with two blank pages.
  • Passport data page: Full page in the frame, no glare on the code lines at the bottom.
  • Portrait: Recent, facing forward, white background, no glasses.
  • Trip details: Arrival and departure dates, entry and exit gates, first accommodation address.
  • Card: Debit or credit card that works for overseas online payments.

Photo examples and the full checklist are on our e-visa requirements page.

Vietnam visa on arrival for Thai citizens

Thai citizens have little reason to use visa on arrival: a stay of 30 days or less needs no visa, and a longer one is simpler with an e-visa.

Visa on arrival works only at Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang and Cam Ranh, with an approval letter obtained before you board and a $25 or $50 stamping fee at the airport. If you want to compare the options, you can choose a service.

Vietnam embassy in Thailand

Vietnam has an embassy in Thailand, but you do not need it for an e-visa, which is issued online, or for a stay of 30 days or less. Our page on the Vietnam embassy in Thailand has the details.

Tips for Thai travelers

Two points help Thai travelers: pages that answer the other direction, and the baht figures.

Check the page answers your direction

Search results for this question are full of pages about Vietnamese citizens entering Thailand, including a Thai ministry table of 30-day bilateral agreements. That table covers foreigners entering Thailand, not Thai citizens entering Vietnam, so do not read it as your rule.

Baht figures are a guide

The table shows approximate baht prices at the mid-market rate on October 10, 2026. Your card is charged in US dollars, and your bank converts at its own rate, so your statement can differ.

eVisaVietnam.com is a private visa service operated by TK VIET NAM., JSC, not the Vietnamese government. You can apply yourself at evisa.gov.vn for US$25. If you want your files checked and a delivery time backed by a full refund, apply for your e-visa with us.

Frequently Asked Questions

No, for 30 days or less. Thai citizens with an ordinary passport can enter without a visa under the rule above. For a longer stay, apply for an e-visa before you travel.

How many days can Thai citizens stay in Vietnam without a visa?

Up to 30 days with an ordinary passport. After day 30 you need an e-visa, which allows up to 90 days.

How much is the Vietnam government fee in Thai baht?

On evisa.gov.vn the government fee is US$25 (approx. THB 839) for single entry and US$50 (approx. THB 1,678) for multiple entry, charged in US dollars. It is not refunded if the e-visa is refused.

Can I get a Vietnam visa today in Bangkok?

Yes, on a Vietnamese working day. Order Same day before 14:15 Bangkok time for delivery by 18:00, or Emergency before 17:30 for delivery 1.5 working hours later. On weekends, use the Weekend and public holidays speed.

Can I work in Vietnam on the visa-free stay from Thailand?

No. Visa-free entry covers visits, not employment. Working in Vietnam needs a work permit and the matching visa, and the e-visa does not cover it either.
