Vietnam Visa for Timor-Leste Citizens: E-Visa Cost in US Dollars and Steps
Vietnam visa for Timor-Leste citizens: ordinary passports still need a visa, usually the 90-day e-visa from $47. A 2026 exemption deal is not yet in force.
Timor-Leste citizens with an ordinary passport need a visa for Vietnam, so the Vietnam visa for Timor-Leste citizens is the e-visa, valid for up to 90 days and from $47 all-in through us for single entry. Timor-Leste appears on a Vietnamese exemption list, but only for diplomatic and official passports, and an agreement for ordinary passports has been signed but is not confirmed in force. This page covers the e-visa, prices (already in your own currency), urgent cut-offs in Dili time, the steps, documents, visa on arrival and the embassy. You can apply for your e-visa with us in about ten minutes.
Dili is two hours ahead of Vietnam all year, so the Vietnamese working day starts at 10:00 on your clock and Same day closes at 16:15. The cut-off table below shows which speed is still open when you order.

Do Timor-Leste citizens need a visa for Vietnam?
Yes, for now. An ordinary Timor-Leste passport needs a visa for any stay in Vietnam, and the e-visa is the usual route.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs exemption list (published June 30, 2025, checked October 2026) has a row for Timor-Leste marked under Diplomatic and Official/Service/Special, with a 30-day stay. The Ordinary column is empty.
The two countries signed an agreement on visa exemption for ordinary passports on June 9, 2026, in the presence of both prime ministers in Hanoi, according to news coverage of the visit. We found no source giving the date it enters into force or the number of days, and the Ministry's table has not changed, so check the Ministry's table or the embassy again before you rely on it. Vietnam visa for Timor-Leste citizens: urgent cut-offs in Dili time
Standard takes 5 to 7 working days. The urgent speeds use Vietnamese working days, which start at 8:00 in Vietnam, or 10:00 in Dili.
| Order cut-off | Dili time |
|---|---|
| Same day (Vietnam 14:15) | 16:15 |
| Super Urgent (Vietnam 15:30) | 17:30 |
| Emergency (Vietnam 17:30) | 19:30 |
| 1 working day (Vietnam 18:00) | 20:00 |
Example: you order on Tuesday at 11:00 in Dili, which is 9:00 on Tuesday in Vietnam. Emergency arrives by 12:30, Super Urgent by 13:30 and Same day by 20:00, all in Dili time. Ordered on Tuesday at 18:00 instead (16:00 in Vietnam), Emergency still arrives by 19:30, but Super Urgent and Same day have passed their cut-offs: Super Urgent arrives on Wednesday at 13:00 and Same day on Wednesday at 16:00.
The weekend window starts at Friday 20:00 in Dili and ends on Sunday at 18:00. In that window, order the Weekend and public holidays speed before 17:20 and it arrives by 20:30 the same day. Our urgent e-visa page has every speed in Vietnam time.

Visa on arrival for Timor-Leste citizens
Timor-Leste citizens can use visa on arrival only when flying into Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang or Cam Ranh. You need an approval letter before you board and pay a $25 or $50 stamping fee at the airport.
It does not work for cruise ports or land borders. For most trips the e-visa is simpler; you can compare both when you choose a service.
Vietnam embassy in Timor-Leste
You do not need an embassy for an e-visa, which is issued online. For consular help, check the list of Vietnamese missions on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website (mofa.gov.vn) for the one that covers Timor-Leste.
Tips for Timor-Leste travelers
Two points help Timor-Leste travelers: the pending agreement, and the US dollar.
A signed agreement is not yet an exemption
News of the 2026 agreement can read as if ordinary passports are already exempt. Until the agreement enters into force and the Ministry updates its table, border officers apply the current rule, so apply for the e-visa for a trip you are planning now.
Prices are already in US dollars
Because Dili runs ahead of Vietnam, the urgent cut-offs fall in your afternoon and evening: Same day closes at 16:15 and Emergency at 19:30. An order placed in the evening can miss Same day and Super Urgent, so order earlier in the day. Timor-Leste uses the US dollar, so the table needs no conversion.
eVisaVietnam.com is a private visa service operated by TK VIET NAM., JSC, not the Vietnamese government. You can apply yourself at evisa.gov.vn for US$25. If you want your files checked and a delivery time backed by a full refund, apply for your e-visa with us.
