Vietnam Public Holidays 2026 and 2027: Dates, Tet and Calendar
Vietnam public holidays 2026 and 2027: Tet, Hung Kings, April 30, National Day and the new Culture Day, with status, sources and the effect on your e-visa.
Vietnam public holidays 2026 follow Article 112 of the Labor Code, which gives 11 paid days a year, and a new Culture Day on November 24 makes it 12 from July 1, 2026. Tet 2026 was a nine-day break from February 14 to 22. This page lists the dates for 2026 and 2027, says which are fixed and which are only proposed, and explains how holidays affect a Vietnam e-visa. You can apply for your e-visa before a break starts.

Vietnam public holidays 2026
Article 112 of the Labor Code (Law 45/2019/QH14) gives one day for the Gregorian New Year, five days for Tet, one day each for April 30 and May 1, two days for National Day and one day for the Hung Kings Commemoration Day. The table shows the 2026 days and the longer breaks around them.
| Holiday | Public holiday | Longer break | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| New Year | January 1 (Thursday) | None | Fixed by law |
| Tet (Lunar New Year) | February 16 to 20 | February 14 to 22, nine days | Announced by the Ministry of Home Affairs |
| Hung Kings Commemoration Day | April 26 (Sunday) | Monday, April 27 as the day off | The holiday fell on a weekend |
| April 30 and May 1 | April 30 and May 1 | April 30 to May 3, four days | Fixed by law |
| National Day | September 1 and 2 | August 29 to September 2, five days | Public-sector break; August 31 swapped with Saturday, August 22 |
| Culture Day | November 24 (Tuesday) | None | New; paid |
The Tet and National Day breaks come from the schedule that Vietnam Briefing reports for the public sector. A private employer may follow different days, so a longer break does not close every office.
Culture Day, a new holiday
On April 24, 2026, the National Assembly passed a resolution that marks November 24 as Vietnam Culture Day, a paid day off, from July 1, 2026, as Vietnam News reports. The resolution does not itself amend the Labor Code, and the Government is preparing that amendment.
Breaks that move working days
A holiday near a weekend often moves working days. In 2026 the Hung Kings day fell on a Sunday and Monday was the day off. For National Day, a working Monday was swapped with a Saturday to make a five-day break. Check the reopening date, not only the number of holiday days.
Vietnam public holidays 2027
The next fixed holiday is the Gregorian New Year on Friday, January 1, 2027. Other days are either set by law, set by the lunar calendar or still only proposed. The table keeps the three apart.
| Holiday | 2027 | Status |
|---|---|---|
| New Year | January 1 (Friday) | Fixed by law |
| Tet (Lunar New Year) | February 4 to 10; Tet day is February 6 | Proposed by the Ministry of Home Affairs on September 11, 2026; pending Government approval |
| Hung Kings Commemoration Day | 10th day of the 3rd lunar month, April 16 by the lunar calendar | The Prime Minister sets the days off |
| April 30 and May 1 | April 30 (Friday) and May 1 (Saturday) | Fixed by law |
| National Day | September 2 (Thursday) and one adjacent day | Four days, September 2 to 5, proposed |
| Culture Day | November 24 (Wednesday) | Annual paid day; Labor Code amendment pending |
The Tet proposal was reported by VnExpress International on September 12, 2026. We update this page when the Government confirms the schedule, so check the date at the top.
Tet holiday and the Vietnamese calendar
Tet is the Lunar New Year and the longest holiday of the year. The law gives five days, and the Government often joins them to weekends to form a longer break. Tet 2026 started on February 17, and Tet 2027 starts on February 6.
The Vietnamese calendar
Vietnam uses the Gregorian calendar for law and travel, and the lunar calendar for Tet and the Hung Kings day. Tet is the first lunar day of the year, and the Hung Kings day is the 10th day of the third lunar month. Both move each year.
Tet dates in 2026 and 2027
Tet fell on February 17 in 2026, inside a nine-day break from February 14 to 22. In 2027 Tet day is February 6 and the break proposed is February 4 to 10. If your trip is close to Tet, read the next section before you book.
What public holidays mean for your Vietnam visa
A holiday works like a weekend for an e-visa order. The Standard, 3, 2 and 1 working-day speeds count working days, so a holiday adds a day to each. A long break such as Tet adds a working day for every day the offices stay closed.
The Weekend and public holidays speed still runs on a holiday. It costs $250 for single entry and $280 for multiple entry. An order placed before 15:20 Vietnam time (GMT+7) is delivered by 18:30 the same day; an order from 15:20 is delivered by 18:30 the next day. The windows by time zone are on our page on the Vietnam visa on weekends and holidays.
The safest plan is to order before the break begins. If you are short of time, see our urgent e-visa options and the full price table. Vietnamese embassies abroad may also close on Vietnamese holidays, so confirm with them first; the embassy directory lists their contact details.
Where the dates come from
Fixed holidays come from Article 112 of the Labor Code, and the Prime Minister sets the Tet and Hung Kings days off each year. We call a date confirmed only when it is in law or a Government announcement. Changes to visa rules are in our Vietnam visa news.
