How to apply Vietnam evisa

How to apply for Vietnam visa from Canada is straightforward: Canadians apply online for the e-visa, valid for up to 90 days, pay by card, upload a passport page and a photo, and receive a PDF by email. You do not need the embassy in Ottawa. This page covers the steps, what to prepare, timing in Toronto and Vancouver time, paying from Canada and two warnings that matter for Canadians: which gate the e-visa lets you use, and fake websites. For prices in Canadian dollars and urgent cut-offs, see our guide to the Vietnam visa for Canadian citizens. When you are ready, you can apply for your e-visa.

eVisaVietnam.com is a private visa service operated by TK VIET NAM., JSC, not the Vietnamese government. You can apply yourself at evisa.gov.vn for US$25.

How to apply for Vietnam visa from Canada

You apply for a Vietnam visa from Canada in five steps with us, and the steps are the same in every province.

  1. Fill in the form: Enter your passport details, trip dates, entry gate and the speed you want. The price and the delivery time update as you choose.

  3. Upload your files: Add the passport data page and the portrait photo. You can upload any time after paying.
  4. We check and submit: A person looks at the photo and scan, and contacts you if a file has a problem, before submitting on evisa.gov.vn.
  5. Receive the PDF: The approved e-visa arrives by email. Check your name and passport number against your passport, and print one copy.

You can also apply yourself on evisa.gov.vn; our guide on how to apply covers that route screen by screen. To follow an order with us, use the e-visa status tool.

What to prepare in Canada

A Vietnam e-visa application from Canada needs four things ready:

  • A Canadian passport: Valid for at least 6 months from your entry date, with two blank pages.
  • A data page image: The page with your photo, all four corners in view, and the two code lines at the bottom sharp, without glare.
  • A portrait photo: Recent, facing the camera, white background, no glasses. The photo requirements guide shows examples that pass and fail.
  • A card and an emergency contact: A card enabled for online payments to a foreign merchant, and the name, address and phone of a contact at home.

Copy your name from the two code lines at the bottom of the data page, in capital letters, including middle names. The form also asks for the address of your first night in Vietnam.

When to apply from Canada

Apply at least two weeks before you fly if you choose Standard, because 5 to 7 working days can stretch over weekends and Vietnamese public holidays. Vietnam is 11 to 15 hours ahead of Toronto and Vancouver, and Canada changes its clocks on the same dates as the United States.

Your time at 9:00Vietnam time
Toronto, daylight time20:00
Toronto, standard time21:00
Vancouver, daylight time23:00
Vancouver, standard time0:00 the next day

An order placed during the Canadian day is processed on the next Vietnamese working morning, which is why urgent e-visas often arrive the same evening in Toronto. Calgary and Edmonton are two hours behind Toronto. Our guide for Canadian citizens has the full table of cut-offs, and the urgent e-visa page covers every speed.

Paying for your e-visa from Canada

You pay in US dollars by credit or debit card. A Standard single-entry e-visa costs $47, about C$67 at 1 USD = 1.4261 CAD (xe.com, October 8, 2026), government fee included, and your card issuer sets the final Canadian dollar amount. See the full price table for every speed.

On evisa.gov.vn the government fee alone is US$25 (approx. C$36). If a payment fails, check that your card allows online payments to foreign merchants and retry, rather than starting a second application.

Two warnings for Canadian applicants

Canadians should watch two points that come from government sources, and then avoid the usual mistakes.

Enter through the gate on your e-visa. You name an entry gate on the application. The Government of Canada's travel advice for Vietnam says entry is restricted to the port shown on your e-visa. Choose the airport or gate you will actually use, and check the ports of entry list.

Check the website before you pay. In October 2023 the embassy in Ottawa warned Canadians about websites that use words like "viet" and "embassy" in their names, and the embassy notice is still online. Our name is close to the government's too, which is why every page says we are a private service. The government site is evisa.gov.vn.

Common mistakes beyond those two:

  • A recycled photo: A crop from a passport or a photo of a printed picture is flagged.
  • A cropped passport scan: If the two code lines are cut off, the site cannot read the passport.
  • Dates with no margin: Start the validity a day or two before you land; 90 days costs the same as 30.

If you already filed a faulty application, read about e-visa problems first. Ready? Apply for your e-visa and a person checks your files before they go in.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I apply for a Vietnam visa online from Canada?

Yes. Canadians apply online for the e-visa, valid for up to 90 days, pay by card and receive a PDF by email. No visit to the embassy in Ottawa is needed.

Can I enter Vietnam through a different gate than the one on my e-visa?

The Government of Canada advises that entry is restricted to the port shown on your e-visa. Pick the gate you will really use, and if your route changes, sort it out before you fly.

How do I spot a fake Vietnam visa website?

The government site is evisa.gov.vn, which ends in .gov.vn. Private services, including ours, say that they are private. Be careful with sites that use "viet" or "embassy" in the name and do not say who runs them.

How early should I apply from Canada?

At least two weeks before you fly at Standard speed. If your flight is closer, choose a faster speed and check the cut-offs in Toronto and Vancouver time on our guide for Canadian citizens.

Do I need the Vietnam embassy in Ottawa?

No. The e-visa is applied for online. The embassy handles passport-sticker visas for longer or special-purpose stays.
