Why the airline refused boarding over your Vietnam visa

An airline refuses boarding because it is responsible for flying back passengers who are turned away at the destination. Check-in staff therefore ask for your e-visa PDF before they print a boarding pass.

A pending application on evisa.gov.vn is not enough. The desk needs the approved e-visa, with your passport number and entry date. If you hold a passport that enters Vietnam without a visa, such as a British passport for up to 45 days (see the Ministry of Foreign Affairs list), you do not need an e-visa, so show the passport and your return ticket.

Can the Emergency e-visa save your flight?

Yes, if you order it early enough in the Vietnamese working day. An emergency Vietnam visa at the airport is the same e-visa as a standard one, processed in the fastest tier: $260 for single entry, $285 for multiple, government fee included. See the full price table for the other speeds.

The table shows when an Emergency order placed on a Vietnamese working day is delivered (GMT+7):

Examples: an order at 9:00 arrives by 10:30. An order at 10:45 arrives by 13:15. An order at 14:00 arrives by 15:30. An order at 18:00 does not arrive until 9:30 the next working day.

Compare the delivery time with the time check-in closes, not with the time your plane leaves. Vietnam is seven hours ahead of UTC and has no daylight saving time; our urgent e-visa page converts these times for other cities.

What to send on WhatsApp right now

1. Your nationality and the passport you will fly on.
2. Flight details: Date, departure time and the Vietnamese airport or border gate where you land.
3. Passport data page: A full photo, all four corners visible, no glare.

5. Entry date: The date you will actually arrive in Vietnam, which can be the day after you leave.

Clean files matter: any photo that has to be redone eats into the delivery time. If you already applied yourself and the status shows processing, you can expedite a pending e-visa instead of paying the government fee twice.

Outside working hours or on a weekend

After 17:30 on a working day, Emergency moves to 9:30 the next working day. On a Saturday, on a Sunday before 16:00, or from Friday 18:00, use the Weekend and public holidays speed: $250 for single entry, $280 for multiple. Order before 15:20 and it is delivered by 18:30 the same day.

Two gaps to know about. An order placed on Friday between 17:31 and 17:59 is too late for Emergency and too early for the weekend speed, so it waits for the next working morning. Denied boarding Vietnam visa: when to change your flight instead

Change your flight when the e-visa cannot arrive before check-in closes. Waiting at the desk does not speed up processing, and a later departure is often cheaper than the gap between a missed flight and a rebooking.

Ask the airline about the next flight and what the fare rules allow; fees depend on your ticket. If you land at Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang or Cam Ranh, a last-minute visa on arrival letter may also work, since you board with the approval letter and pay a $25 or $50 stamping fee at the airport. It does not work for land or sea borders.
